Okay, so today I am participating in the Last Line Blogfest, like I said yesterday. The "last line" I chose is from one of the first chapters of my NaNoWriMo novel. So, without further ado:
Dillan diligently followed Sky down the hall and up the stairs to her room, with Ian silently trailing behind. They reached a bedroom door with a large white sign that read "Skylar Mae: Knock Please" with colorful doodles covering the paper in every direction.
She pushed the door open halfway, before pausing to face the boys. “Well… wait here please, actually.”
Dillan and Ian watched Skylar disappear into her room for a few short minutes before she returned with one full suitcase. She closed the door behind her and plopped the suitcase on the ground with a small thud.
“These are the people most important in my life.” Skylar explained, opening the suitcase, “Except for those that don’t fit."
Out of the suitcase emerged dozens of ordinary kitchen tools.
I never edited anything I wrote in November, and reading back has told me this is probably something I should do.
Anyway, that's all for today. Now I shall study.

Kitchen tools the most important people in her life? You raised a great question about her with humor and terseness. Excellent ending.
ReplyDeleteOf course, you see the flaws. But you can smooth them out. You have the obvious talent to do it. Roland
Great surprise ending! I certainly wasn't expecting the kitchen tools. :)
ReplyDeleteOK I'll bite - kitchen tools? The need for recreating home? Control of every eventuality?
ReplyDeleteYou have written this well.
Interesting twist at the end. I didn't see that coming. :)
ReplyDeleteHehe, I like this person. She makes me giggle. Just one question, though - “Except for those that don’t fit." Maybe I missed something, or there's something that we didn't get earlier in the story, but that seemed out of left field and I didn't get it. Still, great job, and thanks for participating!
ReplyDeleteHuh? Why did she pack kitchen tools...was she going to culinary school? Nice twist...certainly surprised me.
ReplyDeleteLove That Picture!!
ReplyDeleteThe blog fest sounds fun; love your end & inclusion of "kitchen tools."
Hey, this makes me very intrigued about this woman who calls her kitchen tools people. Very interesting. I wouldn't be so down on it. Unedited or edited, it creates intigue. You should be proud of that!
ReplyDelete...I think it should be ado and not adieu....
